Starting around high school, when I developed issues with substance abuse, things started going downhill in my life. The obsession with chasing that feeling consumed my mind. It didn't matter if it was getting in the way of school, family, or relationships — I just had to have it, nothing else mattered.
I started hiding my use and developed a lot of nervousness, depression, anxiety and ultimately self-hatred. I would drink to alleviate the pain, but the drinking itself caused even more pain — and I was trapped in a vicious cycle. I then got into opiates to cope and just to be able to function, but that's where everything started unraveling further. The dark spiral I went down in my mind was intense, and most of the outside world didn't know it because I hid everything from everybody.
I felt completely overwhelmed and buried under all of the negative beliefs and darkness within me. Throughout this time I had tried so many different therapists and medications, and none of it had ever really made a dent in my crippling depression and anxiety.
It's then that I met my energy healer mentor who showed me the truth about my energy and belief systems, and how they could be healed to shift me out of the rut I was in. I remember thinking it made so much sense why nothing else worked — because I was missing a major component in my healing. After one session with him, I woke up the next day and quit an addiction I had tried to quit for years, and haven't gone back since.
Not to say the healing journey after that point was easy, but there was a Divine grace and an internal spring of hope that came over me that day that hasn't left. I had found the missing ingredient and had uncovered my true power. Everything can change when we invite the Divine energy into our lives — it is powerful, loving, peaceful, and transformative.
